Planty is a unique on the European scale urban park (about 21 ha) created on the area of ​​the old fortifications of Krakow Old Town. Until the early 19th century, the city was surrounded by a tight ring of walls, which at that time were already useless structure, completely defensless on this time weapons.  After the decision declaring Krakow as an open city – in the years 1807-1814 – they were demolished almost all the towers and battlements.  Local authorities  left only three towers, Barbican and Florian’s Gate.

Launched by the Austrian authorities at the threshold of the 19th century city walls liquidation was aimed primarily at „beautification” and the opening of the Krakow. On-site occupied previously by the belt of fortifications, in 1822 -1830 was decorated by the urban garden, called the Planty. The founder was Feliks Radwanski Starszy.

The composition is a garden multiflower, English type with an irregular pattern of tracks. Particularly beautiful is the avenue leading from the Franciszkańska street towards Wawel Hill (made in classicist period)

 Krakowskie Planty to wyjątkowy w skali Europy park miejski (około 21 ha), utworzony w miejscu dawnych fortyfikacji Starego Miasta. Aż do początku XIX wieku, miasto było otoczone ciasnym pierścieniem murów, które w tym czasie były już bezużyteczną strukturą, całkowicie bezbronną na użycie broni z tamtego okresu. Po decyzji uznającej Kraków jako miasto otwarte – w latach 1807-1814 – rozebrano prawie wszystkie wieże i blanki. Władze lokalne pozostawiły tylko trzy wieże, Barbakan i Bramę Floriańską.

Uruchomiony przez władze austriackie na progu XIX wieku program likwidacji murów miejskich był nakierowany przede wszystkim na „upiększanie” i otwarcie Krakowa. Na miejscu zajmowanym wcześniej przez pas fortyfikacji w latach 1822 -1830 urządzono miejski ogród, zwany Plantami. Założycielem był Feliks Radwański starszy.

Ze względu na kompozycję jest to ogród wielokwiatowy, angielskiego typu o nieregularnym układzie ścieżek. Szczególnie piękna jest aleja wiodąca od ul. Franciszkańskiej w kierunku Wzgórza Wawelskiego (okres klasycystyczny)
